Former Aston Villa defender John Terry is reportedly on his way to Spartak Moscow.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea legend John Terry is set to join Spartak Moscow on a one-year contract, and it should not surprise Aston Villa fans.

Terry has been without a club since the end of last season when he left Villa after spending the 2017-18 campaign at Villa Park.

The 37-year-old was one of the best defenders in the Championship, and there is no surprise that Villa manager Steve Bruce wants the former England international central defender back for the 2018-19 campaign, as reported by The Sun.

However, it seems that the central defender is on his way to Russia. According to Sky Sports, Terry underwent a medical with Spartak in Rome on Saturday morning and will sign a one-year contract with the Russian club.

Spartak finished third in the Russian Premier League last season and will feature in the group stage of the Champions League this campaign.

Villa are a big club, but the Villans are in the Championship, and it is not a surprise that Terry is reportedly set to choose a club who will play in the Europa League this season and will challenge for the league title in Russia.

The Daily Mail recently reported of interest from a Premier League club in Terry and three other offers, and it was always going to be hard for Villa to convince the former Champions League winner to move to Villa Park this season.

Bruce’s reported failure to convince Terry to return to Villa should not come as a surprise to anyone. If it were to happen, it would have happened by now.
