Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has been having a tough time of late and now Everton could come to his rescue as they are rumoured to be interested in his services, as reported by Spanish outlet Sport.

Recently, Cillessen participated in the UEFA Nations League for Holland, who beat England in the semi-finals but lost to Portugal in the final, and during those games, his own media criticised him for his performances – something which he didn’t like.

He has been a regular in between the sticks for the Dutch in recent years despite playing second fiddle to Marc Ter Stegen at club level for some time now.

Nonetheless, after the conclusion of the UEFA Nations League less than a fortnight ago, Cillessen had a clear message to those who felt he was doing wrong.

“In the Netherlands, we go very easy on that,” said Cillessen, as quoted by Goal. “I already received some messages. The Dutch media write a lot about it and I’m a little tired of that.

“I saw the ball late and he hit it pretty hard [in regards to his goal conceded against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League final]. That’s the only thing I’ve seen right now. Anyway, we always criticise someone very easily in the Netherlands.

On diving early for Rashford’s penalty: “I will be careful what I say: I’m a little tired of that as well. It’s too easy to say that, especially if you check out Rashford’s last few penalties. It’s too easy what everyone has said about it. I really don’t like it.”

This could bode well for Everton if they sign him this summer because they will be bringing in a player that has a lot to prove.

Firstly, he hasn’t played much at the Nou Camp and he will be eager to get back onto the field. Then, he will be eager to shut his critics up and prove his worth.
