Liverpool could have a seriously powerful midfield next season.
Jürgen Klopp is clearly on the cusp of achieving something very special at Anfield, but that doesn’t mean he will not be looking to bolster his squad even further still this summer.
Naby Keita is already set to arrive from RB Leipzig in the summer, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £66 million, and now Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato claim that the Reds are lining up a £40 million swoop for Napoli ace Amadou Diawara.
Whilst the signing of Keita is already secured, if Klopp can add his Guinea international teammate to his squad as well, Liverpool would surely have the most explosive central midfield partnership in Europe.
Diawara, 20, is a holding midfielder by trade, but he possesses energy and stamina levels similar to those of N’Golo Kante, and he has showcased his ability to play the box-to-box role with aplomb this season with Napoli.
For someone so young, the Guinean is incredibly strong, and plays with a certain type of tenacity that seems to be ideally suited to the Premier League.
The Merseyside outfit have arguably the most dangerous front-line in the Premier League, if not the whole of Europe, but their defensive frailties have prevented them from mounting a sustained challenge for the league title this season.
Having Keita and Diawara forming a solid base in front of their back four next season, though, would surely make them Manchester City’s nearest challengers for the Premier League title.
With Keita set to arrive in the summer for £66 million, adding Diawara for just £40 million seems like a no-brainer, and if Klopp does manage to bring the 20-year-old to Anfield this summer, it could turn out to be the signing that makes all the difference for them next season.
