Everton are reportedly interested in Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck, but, with a modest goal record, he must not come in as an alternative to a prolific front man.
Despite their significant summer business, there remains a gaping hole in Everton’s first team squad – they lack a goalscorer.
Having sold Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, funding a large part of their expenditure, Ronald Koeman has so far looked to plug a gaping hole with Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez.

However, Rooney is clearly on the decline and better suited to a deeper role, while Sandro, sometimes deployed out wide, is new to England.
Therefore, Everton still require a proven marksman, making their reported interest in Danny Welbeck, in the Mirror, as an alternative to Arsenal team-mate Olivier Giroud, rather baffling.
Welbeck is a fine player and would offer pace that is also missing in the Toffees’ front line, but he is certainly not a consistent scorer.
The England international has yet to hit double-figures in the league in his career and Everton would be taking a huge risk in relying on him – particularly for a £30million fee.
Of course, Welbeck’s other attributes mean he could well be a worthwhile addition, but he must not arrive as an alternative to Giroud or another prolific front man.
