Talk about signing off in style.
If Shon Weissman is leaving Wolfsberger this summer, he will depart a hero, riding off into the sunset with the Austrian Bundesliga Golden Boot award clutched under his arm.
After all, no one came close to matching Weissman’s tally of 30 goals in 31 games during the 2019/20 campaign.
Things might have been different if Erling Haaland had not taken his remarkable finishing skills to Borussia Dortmund in January, of course, but even the blonde bomber would’ve struggled to match the incredible standards set by Wolfsberger’s Israel international.
With a further seven goals in cup competitions, taking his eventual tally to 37, Weissman is even more prolific at present than the fearsome Frenchman he has been tipped to replace at Celtic.
The Telegraph reported in May that Neil Lennon’s Scottish Premiership champions will turn to the former Maccabi Haifa prospect if they receive an offer that they simply cannot refuse for the much-admired Odsonne Edouard.

In an ideal world, Wolfsberger would love to keep their top scorer and talisman for another year in order to close the gap between themselves in third and runaway Bundesliga champions Red Bull Salzburg.
But if the perennial league winners are powerless to prevent their star players leaving year after year, with Player of the Year Dominik Szoboszlai set to follow Haaland, Naby Keita and Takumi Minamino out of the door, Wolfsberger know in their heart of hearts that Weissman’s time is coming to an end.
It was short but oh so sweet.
“If he wants to go and finds a club that meets our demands, he’ll be able to go,” president Dietmar Riegler told Sky this week.
“He certainly has the opportunity to be just as successful in big leagues.”
