Pre-season is already underway for Celtic ahead of the new Scottish Premiership campaign, as Neil Lennon will also have his eye on the summer transfer window.

Wherever you play your football in the world, to be nominated for a Puskas award is surely something special, and those who are usually nominated have done something special.

That was the case for FC Copenhagen defender Peter Ankersen, who is attracting the interest of Celtic this summer as they search for a new right-back ahead of the new Scottish Premiership campaign.

The Sun previously reported that Celtic could make a move for the right-back, with transfer guru Nick Hammond tasked in trying to find a replacement for the departing Mikel Lustig.

If Ankersen does make the switch from Denmark to Scotland then he will be playing on a much bigger stage and his name will be known to more fans worldwide.

But he’s already had his name up in lights when, as mentioned above, he was nominated for FIFA’s Puskas award in 2013 – which is an award solely dedicated to the best goal scored during that year.

Ankersen’s strike came during a Danish Super League game when the full-back volleyed in a shot for Esbjerg from the byline [Fifa’s official website].

Peter Ankersen of Denmark controls the ball during the UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifier match between Denmark and Georgia at Telia Parken on June 10, 2019 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Denmark international didn’t go on to win the award because that belonged to one man Zlatan Ibrahimovic – It was for his quite outrageous overhead kick from about 30 yards out against England.

Nonetheless, Neil Lennon will be focussing on pre-season for now, and with it trying to add new faces to his squad as he prepares to win nine-in-a-row.

A right-back is needed, along with more defensive depth overall. If the Bhoys can bring in the right type of players then they will be a serious threat to one and all again next season.
