Celtic are reportedly keen to sign Derby County left-back Max Lowe after his excellent season on loan at Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen.

Max Lowe has already earned his stripes in the Scottish Premiership.

The Derby County left-back spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Aberdeen and its fair to say he made a positive impression. Three goals, two assists and the Players’ Player of the Year award; the 22-year-old was nothing short of a revelation.

And it seems that his swashbuckling performances on the left hand side didn’t pass Celtic by.

The Daily Record reports that the Premiership champions have made an enquiry about Lowe’s availability with Celtic keen to sign the youngster either on loan or on a permanent deal.

It remains to be seen, however, what role Lowe would have to play at Celtic. Will he be forced to step into the boots of Kieran Tierney with the fans’ favourite on Arsenal’s wishlist? Or have the Hoops chosen Lowe as competition for Tierney, who they will be desperate to keep?

Well, even if Lowe spends much of his time at Celtic on the bench, he will still represent a substantial upgrade on the departed veteran Emilio Izaguirre or limited utility man Jonny Hayes.

Quick, attack-minded and technically gifted, Lowe was arguably the Premiership’s best left-back last season with Tierney spending much of the campaign on the sidelines with injury.

So regardless of whether Tierney stays, goes or gets injured, Lowe’s arrival would ensure Neil Lennon has real quality in reserve.
