Celtic are reportedly deciding not to sign free agent Moses Odubajo.
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic have decided not to offer trialist Moses Odubajo a permanent deal with the club following a recent stint with the Bhoys.
Given that Cristian Gamboa is expected to move on this summer, more cover is needed for Mikael Lustig at right back – and boss Brendan Rodgers cast his eye over Odubajo last week.
A free agent having left Hull City at the end of his contract this summer, Odubajo was a pacey, attacking right back with the Tigers but hasn’t played for two years due to a number of knee problems.
Odubajo, 24, needs another chance to get his career back on track, and whilst Celtic have decided not to take the risk, Aston Villa may have been boosted.
The Hull Daily Mail recently reported that Villa want to sign Odubajo, given that he was a favourite of manager Steve Bruce during their time together at Hull.
Bruce was the man who signed Odubajo from Brentford in 2015, and a reunion would make some sense either as a right back or as a right winger in Bruce’s Villa side, especially on a free transfer.
Villa’s financial woes have been well-documented of late, and with even free transfers difficult to sanction right now, Celtic’s decision on Odubajo is just a glimmer of hope for Villa, as they may need to offload players before being able to move for the ex-Leyton Orient ace.
It may even come too late given that Odubajo is now on trial with former club Brentford, but there is at least some minor hope that Bruce can bring him to Villa Park after all.
