Celtic and Brighton target Sebastian Andersson is in the form of his life rght now and Union Berlin’s sporting director is aware of the growing interest in his star striker, as reported by the Berliner Zeitung.

When the poor relations of Berlin football were promoted to the Bundesliga for the very first time last season, it would be fair to say few expected them to stick around for long.

After all, Union have a fraction of the budget enjoyed by their near neighbours Hertha. And, barring former Dortmund defender Neven Subotic, it’s fair to say their squad is not exactly chock-full of proven, top-flight talent.

But Andersson, the 6ft 3ins Sweden international, has been the epitome of Union’s remarkable overachievement this season.

No player in the Bundesliga has scored more than his six headed goals, with Andersson netting an impressive 12 overall to spark interest from Celtic and Brighton, according to Expressen and Fotboll Skanalen.

Not that Oliver Ruhnert, Union’s sporting director, is hardly shocked to see the 28-year-old enter the gossip columns.

“If a player scored twelve goals in the Bundesliga, it would be surprising if no other club were interested in him,” Ruhnert admits in his typically understated manner.

Andersson only recently signed a new contract, tying him to Union until 2022. That does not, however, mean he is guaranteed to stick around.

As the Berliner Zeitung points out, that new deal is understood to contain a release clause of just £3.5 million.

What a bargain that would be for a player who has been outscored by just three other Bundesliga forwards, Robert Lewandowski, Timo Werner and Jadon Sancho, this season.
