Burnley target Francesco Margiotta has made it clear that he is not happy at Luzern, amid speculation linking the striker with a move to the Premier League, while speaking to Luzerner Zeitung.

With just five days left in the transfer window, Sean Dyche can feel a little more positive about things.

Now that Leicester City have agreed a deal for Wesley Fofana and West Ham United appear to be giving up after three failed bids, all the signs suggest that England international James Tarkowski will not be jilting the Clarets before Monday’s deadline (LancsLive).

Dyche, then, can afford to rest a little easier, safe in the knowledge that his best defender – and arguably his most influential player – will be staying put.

If Burnley can add to that by reinforcing a paper-thin squad between now and Tuesday, the Turf Moor faithful could soon be looking up towards the European places again rather than glancing nervously at the relegation zone.

The Sun (31 August, page 62) reports that Burnley are looking to bring ex-Juventus striker Margiotta to Lancashire after he produced 14 goals and 12 assists for Swiss outfit Luzern last term.

Margiotta was left out of the squad for the recent clash with Lugano and, as coach Fabio Celestini told Zentral Plus, his future is far from certain.

Now, the man himself has had his say.

“After my first season, after my good performances, I expected the club to make me a new (contract) offer,” says Margiotta, who obviously feels he deserves a better deal.

“(Luzern should say) ‘What a sacrifice you made to get here. We want to renew the contract out of gratitude’. Instead, nothing happened.”

Margiotta, who took a pay cut when joining Luzern from Lausenne Sport last summer for just shy of £1 million, was asked specifically about whether Burnley would be his destination – not that he was giving much away.

“I have nothing specific,” Margiotta replied.
