Leeds United’s reported quest to sign Edinson Cavani may have just received a boost.

Interest from Leeds United

Last month, Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani hinted at a move for the Uruguay international striker, as quoted on Football Italia and covered on HITC Sport here.

ESPN Uruguay subsequently reported that the West Yorkshire outfit have made contact with the former Napoli star, as covered by HITC Sport.

The Daily Mail has also claimed that the Whites are among the clubs who have expressed an interest in signing the Uruguay international striker, who is a free agent at the moment after leaving Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.

Benfica move collapses?

According to a report in Gianlucadimarzio.com today, Cavani is not happy with the financial terms proposed by Benfica.

The former Napoli star had earlier spoken highly of the Portuguese giants, as quoted in Goal.com, but it seems that the 33-year-old’s demands cannot be met by them.

Gianlucadimarzio.com has reported that Benfica have a three-year contract worth €10 million (£9.1 million) ready for the former Palermo star, but they plan to pay the wages over the next six years.

This method of payment, according to the report, is not what Cavani wants, and it means that the door may have opened for Leeds to make a move for the striker.

Good signing for Leeds United?

Described a player who “is a genius as a goalscorer” by PSG defender Marquinhos in Goal.com in June 2017, Cavani remains one of the best strikers in the world, and he would be a brilliant signing for Leeds.

Patrick Bamford is the only senior out-and-out striker in the current Leeds squad, and head coach Marcelo Bielsa does need to bring in a new frontman.
