According to a report from Sky Sports, Arsenal remain locked in talks with Sevilla regarding the possibility of signing Steven N’Zonzi this summer, and if the Gunners do manage to bring the Frenchman to the Emirates, they would have one of the most tenacious midfield duos in the entire Premier League.

Arsenal have already brought in Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria this summer, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £26.5 million, and having N’Zonzi lined up alongside the Uruguayan really would be a frightening prospect.

The north London outfit have been notoriously weak in the middle of the park ever since Patrick Vieira left for Juventus way back in the summer of 2005, but things seem to be changing under the stewardship of Unai Emery.

The Spaniard has already addressed the Gunners’ goalkeeping problems with the signing of Bernd Leno, and has brought in Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stephan Lichtsteiner to help bolster his fragile defence.

Central midfield was another department that needed strengthening, and with Torreira already signed, and World Cup winner Steven N’Zonzi reportedly on the radar, Arsenal could have a totally different look about them next season.

Both the Uruguayan and the Frenchman are arguably two of the most aggressive, tenacious ball-winning midfielders in world football, and they could strike up a really intimidating partnership in the heart of the Gunners’ midfield.

Arsenal could be difficult to play against this season, for the first time in well over a decade, and that will surely be music to Gunners fans’ ears.
