Reported Arsenal target Boubakary Soumare has been left out of Lille’s squad to face Strasbourg this weekend as L’Equipe claim speculation is mounting over his future.

The Lille midfielder has been heavily linked with an exit from the club.

A report from Footmercato in September claimed Arsenal want him, while Lille’s president told France Bleu last week how he Soumare could be sold ahead of the deadline.

His absence from Lille’s squad this weekend only raises more questions.

Arsenal appear in danger of missing out on their top midfield target Houssem Aouar.

According to RMC Sport, Lyon have decided against selling both Memphis Depay and Aouar, leaving Barcelona and Arsenal disappointed ahead of the deadline.

While Soumare is a different type of player, Arsenal must strengthen their midfield and the Lille player has all the attributes needed to thrive in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old is a tall, powerful runner who is comfortable in possession.

Soumare’s contract at Lille expires in the summer of 2021. BuzzSport claimed back in November how Lille valued the player at a whopping £43 million.

But following on from the global health crisis and the situation regarding his contract, the 6ft 2inch French powerhouse is likely now valued at much less.

Arsenal could still yet get their hands on a top young prospect from France.

The Gunners have made a good start this season under Mikel Arteta, but the Spaniard will be desperate for some added quality before the transfer window shuts.
