Arsenal target Dominik Szoboszlai has a £23 million release clause in his Red Bull Salzburg contract, with Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that a move to AC Milan collapsed a year ago.

Hungary coach Marco Rossi is convinced that the brightest talent to emerge from the homeland of the Mighty Magyars will be joining one of Europe’s biggest clubs in 2021.

Salzburg are always willing to listen to offers for their most exciting prospects and, after selling Erling Haaland, Takumi Minamino and Hwang Hee-Chan this year alone, it does seem a matter of time before Szoboszlai is bidding farewell too.

Where this set-piece specialist ends up, however, is far less certain.

Gazzetta reports that AC Milan had agreed a five-year, £30,000-a-week contract with Szoboszlai in 2019, only for the departure of executive Zvonimir Boban to leave the deal in ruins.

The Rossoneri were back in for the 20-year-old play-maker when it looked like Ralf Rangnick, the ‘godfather of the gegenpress’ who has made a career out of polishing rough diamonds, would become their new head coach.

But, after Milan opted to keep the faith in Stefano Pioli instead, the seven-time European champions drifted out of the running once again.

And that leaves the door ajar for a club like Arsenal.

With Mesut Ozil forming something of a one-man bomb squad at the Emirates, a worryingly lack of midfield creativity has led the Gunners to a man who has produced 13 goals and assists in just 11 games so far in 2020/21 (Football London).

Szoboszlai has a £23 million release clause in his contract, meaning an Arsenal side who cannot match their Manchester rivals in the cash department are still very much in contention for the Hungarian’s signature.

“There has been a lot of speculation recently [about my future]. Of course, it is a huge honour to be linked with giant clubs like Juventus, Bayern or Arsenal,” he told Goal last year.
