Reported Arsenal and Everton target Thiago Silva has ruled out a move to former club Fluminense as he plans on staying in Europe, Caras report.
The 35-year-old’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain expires this summer.
According to 90Min, Arsenal, Everton, West Ham United and Newcastle United head a list of Premier League clubs keen on signing the Brazil international.
Silva appears set to leave PSG. Foot Mercato claims PSG sporting director Leonardo is reluctant to agree a new one-year deal without a significant wage drop.
Commenting on his future, Silva told Caras he wants to remain in Europe.
“Everyone knows the affection I have for Fluminense. They opened their doors to me when I suffered from tuberculosis. I am eternally grateful for this, but I still have goals to reach in Europe,” Silva explained.
The defender’s comments came when asked about a potential return to Brazil.
Silva came through the youth ranks at Fluminense before having another three-year spell at the club prior to moving to AC Milan in 2009.
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti knows all about his qualities, having coached Silva at Milan and PSG. He would be a huge signing for the Toffees.
Silva’s reported £240,000 per week wages, however, may be a potential stumbling block.
Arsenal, meanwhile, must look at strengthening their defence. Silva moving to the Emirates would see him partner international teammate David Luiz.
But the Gunners may instead look at younger alternatives. Luiz and Sokratis are already in their thirties, with boss Mikel Arteta tasked with finding a long-term replacement.
