Scottish Premiership champions Celtic reportedly want to sign Mexican international Edson Alvarez from Club America.

Celtic will have to match their transfer record to bring Edson Alvarez to Glasgow this summer.
According to The Sun, Mexican outift Club America are demanding £9 million for their prized asset – the same fee that Celtic paid to sign Odsonne Edouard on a permanent basis from PSG last year.
The report adds that Alvarez’s price-tag threatens to rule Celtic out in the race for a player who is also a target for Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Fiorentina. But, in today’s market, £9 million looks like a fair price for a 21-year-old with potential and versatility by the bucket load.
Alongside Hirving Lozano and Diego Lainez, Alvarez is the rising star of Mexican football. He shone at last summer’s World Cup in Russia and continues to go from strength to strength in his homeland.
Not only is Alvarez arguably the best defender in the Liga MX, he has been moved into a midfield role for club and country since the turn of the year and has adapted to a new position like a duck to water.

Combining real technical ability with impressive physical attributes, Alvarez stands out in both defence and at the base of midfield – two positions where Celtic could find themselves a little short with the futures of Dedryck Boyata, Filip Benkovic and Olivier Ntcham up in the air.
And at the age of just 21, Alvarez has his whole future ahead of him. Celtic made big profits on Virgil van Dijk, Moussa Dembele and co so just imagine how much he’d be worth if he impresses in Glasgow.
Far more than £9 million anyway.
