Arsenal desperately need to strengthen their ranks this summer.
Unai Emery has his work cut-out at the Emirates this summer, if he is to guide his Arsenal side back into contention for the Champions League places next season.
The Gunners have proven to be totally inept over the past few campaigns when the pressure is on, and much of that can be attributed to their weak spine, but Emery seems to be addressing that issue.
Arsenal have been linked with moved for Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno (Sport Bild), Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira (BBC Sport) and Sokratis Papastathopoulos (the Mirror).
If the north London outfit manage to get all three deals over the line, their spine would be transformed into one of the strongest in the Premier League.
Leno, 26, is one of the continent’s finest goalkeepers. A penalty saving specialist, and an expert passer of the football, the German would be an instant upgrade on the ageing Petr Cech.
He is available for around £18 million, according to Sport Bild, and that would represent excellent value for Arsenal.
Torreira, meanwhile, is a really exciting prospect, and at the age of just 22, he is already one of Europe’s best deep-lying midfield players.
BBC Sport claim that he will cost around £26 million, a price that could turn out to be a complete steal for the Gunners.
And finally, the potential signing of Sokratis will surely bring some much needed steel and experience to Arsenal’s fragile back-line.
He captained AEK Athens at just 19-years-old, and that type of leadership is exactly what the Gunners need.
The Greek ace will cost the north Londoners around £16 million, according to the Mirror.
Whilst all three deals are far from being complete, they are at least the kind of players who should get the Arsenal fans excited for the first time in a very long time.
And if Emery makes the triple swoop happen, Arsenal will be in great shape to make progress next term.
