Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing the Tottenham Hotspur stopper.
According to a report from the Sun, Real Madrid are plotting a £60 million bid for Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris this summer, and it might just be in the north London outfit’s best interest to sell the Frenchman, given his age and recent high-profile errors.
The World Cup winner is arguably one of the world’s finest stoppers, but he will be 32 in December, and with his contract running up until 2022, Spurs will probably never get another opportunity to sell him for anything like the £60 million that Madrid are reportedly willing to pay.
Selling Lloris this summer would make sense for Tottenham, certainly from a fiscal perspective, and it would once again add credence to Daniel Levy’s reputation as one of the finest businessmen in the industry.
The 31-year-old joined Spurs from Lyon in the summer of 2012, for just £8 million, and he has gone on to become one of the world’s best goalkeepers.
£60 million for someone of his age is silly money, though, especially when it is considered that 25-year-old Alisson Becker joined Liverpool for £66.8 million.
Madrid’s reported offer would surely be too good to turn down for Tottenham, but if they do decide to sell Lloris, they must do so now, in order to give themselves sufficient time to replace the stopper.
And if Spurs can identify a potential replacement for the Frenchman quickly, selling the World Cup winner for £60 million might just be in their best interest.
