Tottenham Hotspur target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has no plans to force a move away from Lazio this summer and could be rewarded for his loyalty with a new £3.5 million-a-year contract, according to Corriere della Sera.
Surely it is about time Lazio tied head coach Simone Inzaghi down to a ten-year deal, right?
Not only has Pippo’s brother transformed the Rome-based giants into a genuine Serie A title challenger, with Lazio just a point behind Juventus as it stands, his supreme man-management appears to have some of the most coveted stars in European football committing their future to the Stadio Olimpico side.
Corriere della Sera points out that Milinkovic-Savic has asked to leave Lazio in each of the last two summers. But he has no intention of upping sticks this time around.
That is because, under Inzaghi, a Lazio side who have not tasted Scudetto glory in two decades appear to be on the verge of something very special. And Milinkovic-Savic, one of the first names on the team-sheet, wants to stick around and make history as a sleeping giant stirs into life.
This, then, doesn’t bode well for Jose Mourinho’s hopes of bringing a Serbian play-maker to north London this summer.
The Mail claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were hoping to snap up Milinkovic-Savic in a £50 million deal. A 6ft 3ins giant with the power of a bull and the agility of a gazelle feels like a midfielder pretty much tailor-made for a Mourinho side.
But, as Corriere della Roma points out, it feels like only a matter of time before Milinkovic-Savic commits his long-term future to Lazio instead.
