Famara Diedhiou has bid a bitter farewell to Bristol City with Championship rivals Middlesbrough looking to sign the free-agent striker, writing on his official Twitter account.
The transfer merry-go-round is starting to spin.
With Diedhiou out of contract and heading out of Ashton Gate, could Neil Warnock’s Middlesbrough finally get their mitts on a player they failed to sign in the January transfer window?
If they do, that could open the door for Chuba Akpom to join QPR. In turn, Lyndon Dykes may then be spirited away from the London-based outfit by Fulham or West Bromwich Albion, as reported by TEAMtalk.
All this is merely hypothetical at this stage, of course.
The Northern Echo believes Diedhiou’s sizeable wage demands could scupper Middlesbrough’s hopes of signing a man who joined Bristol City for £5.3 million and departed for nothing four years later.
At this stage, Diedhiou’s next club remains a mystery.
But having scored just twice in his final 18 games for Bristol City – both against Middlesbrough, strangely enough – the Senegal international isn’t exactly leaving Ashton Gate on a high.
Diedhiou may be out of Boro’s reach – financially speaking at least – but a new centre-forward is a must at the Riverside with Akpom expected to follow Ashley Fletcher and Rangers-linked Britt Assombalonga out the door.
The Echo reports Middlesbrough were keen on Luton Town’s James Collins but he, like Kieffer Moore in 2020, is expected to snub the north east outfit for Cardiff City.
