Reported Arsenal and Everton target Jeremie Boga is the best winger in Europe, Sassuolo coach Roberto de Zerbi has told Sport Italia (25 August), via Tuttomercatoweb.

Thanks to a summer splurge not seen at Stamford Bridge since the early days of Roman Abramovic, Chelsea are the envy of English football right now.

But forget Timo Werner and Kai Havertz – you could argaubly make an even more fearsome front line out of the players Chelsea have let go in the last decade or so.

Think Romelu Lukaku, Kevin de Bruyne and Mo Salah. As avid Serie A viewers will tell you, we could soon be adding Boga to that list.

The fleet-footed Ivorian has been so impressive since swapping Chelsea for Sassuolo last summer that a £25 million return to England, a la Salah, appears to be on the cards.

FootMercato reported in July that Arsenal are interested, albeit before signing Willian from (you guessed it) Chelsea. Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton are also big admirers (Sky).

While Boga has a long way to go before he can match his idol, a certain Eden Hazard, the one-time Birmingham City loanee is certainly on the right track.

“I think so,” De Zerbi says when asked if Boga was the continent’s best winger at present.

“I’m biased, but I don’t think I’m so wrong about what I said.”

You won’t find many Italian-based full-backs willing to disagree.

While tying plenty of defenders up like a homebaked pretzel, Boga produced a career-best 11 league goals for a thrilling Sassuolo side.

“Honestly, I don’t know any dribblers that are better than him,” Sassuolo’s Filip Djuricic, a former teammate of Sadio Mane, said recently, translated by Football Italia.

“I played with many people, but in beating his man, he’s the best I’ve ever seen.”
