Brazilian outlet Esporte News Mundo has claimed that Everton are battling Carlo Ancelotti’s former side Napoli for the signature of Sporting Lisbon’s Wendel.

The 22-year-old has been making huge strides in the Portuguese top-flight over the last few years, but he was well known to European clubs even before he joined Sporting.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain had an agreement to sign Wendel back in 2017. However Financial Fair Play regulations forced them to drop out of the race to sign him (Globo Esporte).

Wendel since joined Sporting and has been an integral part of the side over the last two years.

The Brazilian, a proper number eight, would be an interesting addition for the Toffees who are on the lookout for a new midfielder.

Napoli are reportedly leading the race to sign him according to the report, despite Carlo Ancelotti personally talking to him.

The Italian giants are reportedly prepared to offer Wendel better wages and a bigger signing-on fee should he sign for them.

However, if Everton really push for his signature, they should not have too many problems beating Ancelotti’s former side to his signature this summer.
