Reported Tottenham target Habib Diallo is in the “process of leaving” Ligue 1 outfit Metz this summer, team-mate Mathieu Udol has told Republicain Lorrain.

Eight months after Spurs tried and failed to bring a Senegal international to north London, Diallo should be handed a second chance to seal what would be a life-changing move to one of the biggest clubs in English football.

The striker’s agent, Thierno Seydi, admitted to APS recently there had been interest in his client from the 2019 Champions League finalists.

And, according to BeIN Sports, Tottenham are leading the race for Diallo’s £18 million-rated signature.

Although the 25-year-old would be keen to link up with Jose Mourinho, Harry Kane and other stars he is hardly throwing his toys out of the pram to engineer a move.

Diallo featured during Metz’s Ligue 1 defeat to Monaco on Saturday, proving his commitment to the cause even if his departure seems only a matter of time.

“As long as Habib is there, we want him because we know everything he brought us last season,” Udol said of the rangy forward, who scored 12 times in 27 league games last season.

“Habib still needs to keep a certain pace, even if he is in the process of leaving.”

Metz president Bernard Serin has been open about the fact Diallo will be sold for the right price after the best run of his career in 2019/20, telling France Bleu in May it was “time for him to pursue his career elsewhere”.

Diallo could provide much-needed competition for Tottenham captain Kane and wouldn’t arrive with the expectation or ego of a more established, high-profile forward.
