According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Southampton are close to wrapping up a £10.6 million deal to sign Marlon Santos from Barcelona, and it could turn out to be a move that nets them a huge profit in the future.

As much as Saints fans won’t like to admit it, the south coast outfit are, and always have been, a selling club, and their transfer recruitment policy is based around the potential of selling on their stars for inflated fees once they have proved themselves at St Mary’s.

And Marlon certainly fits into that category.

The 22-year-old Brazilian centre-back really is one for the future, and if he goes on to live up to his undoubted potential, the reported fee of just £10.6 million will look like mere pocket change.

Every Love Island contestant if they were an England player – World Cup!

Marlon is a terrific all-round defender. Standing at just 6ft tall, he isn’t the biggest of centre-backs, but he does possesses a fantastic leap, and he is cool and composed when in possession of the football.

The soon-to-be Southampton ace also has impressive ball dispersion skills, and he embodies everything that a modern day defender should entail.

He will undoubtedly prove to be a great asset for the Saints, and if he does prove to be a success in the Premier League, he could go on to net Mark Hughes’ side millions in the transfer market in the future.

That viewpoint could be considered as defeatist, but judging by Southampton’s transfer history, it is a totally realistic scenario.
