Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Derby County have lost out to Brentford in the race to sign a former Watford defender, according to Teamtalk.
It is claimed that Burnley, Forest and Derby had all shown an interest in the left-back Lewis Gordon.
But Gordon is now said to have agreed terms with Brentford.
Though a youth international for Scotland, the 19-year-old came through the ranks at Watford, but he failed to make a senior appearance for the Premier League side.
The Burnley manager Sean Dyche, a former defender with Derby’s rivals Nottingham Forest, spent five years coaching at Watford.
But Dyche’s connection to the Hornets does not appear to have been enough on this occasion.

A move to Brentford does make the most sense for Gordon, geographically.
It is unclear if he would compete for a senior spot immediately at Brentford, or go straight into the Londoners’ B team, which operates differently to the under-23 sides at Nottingham Forest and Derby.
If the former, Gordon could come up against Forest, Derby and Watford in the Championship this coming season.
