According to Eurosport, Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans will wait until after Euro 2020 before deciding on a new deal.
It’s claimed that Leicester want to reward Tielemans for a fine season with an improved contract that would take him beyond 2023,which is when his current deal ends.
Tielemans allegedly enjoys life under Brendan Rodgers, but he’s not rushing into a deal before the European Championships kick off.
Tielemans knows that strong displays for Belgium could improve his profile, putting him in a strong position in contract talks or possibly attracting interest.
The 24-year-old hit nine goals and six assists in all competitions this past season, including the stunning long-range winner to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
This new report may leave Leicester fans sweating, and it comes at a bad time given that Het Nieuwsblad in his native Belgium claim that Liverpool want to sign Tielemans.
Liverpool have lost Gini Wijnaldum at the end of his contract, and Tielemans – branded top class by Pep Guardiola – could be seen as a replacement.
Leicester paid £40million for Tielemans in 2019, so Liverpool would likely have to pay much, much more than that, which doesn’t exactly seem likely this summer.
If we had to predict an outcome here, it’s that Tielemans does play well at Euro 2020 but still stays with Leicester, staying where he is loved after his time at Monaco became a struggle.
