Newcastle United haven’t seen much from Yoshinori Muto this season.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United striker Yoshinori Muto has impressed with his attitude in training as he bids for more playing time.
The Magpies have been in decent form of late, losing just two of the last nine games and showing great resiliency to battle back even when behind.
In the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth before the international break, a late Matt Ritchie goal secured a point for Newcastle, and the game also saw Muto make a rare appearance.
The Japanese international came on for the final eight minutes as Newcastle chased a goal, and that was just his second appearance of 2019 for the Magpies, with his only other showing coming as an 81st minute substitute against Manchester United in January.
The 26-year-old attacker has been adjusting to life in England, and had to go to the Asian Cup with Japan, but ultimately hasn’t really had the desired impact this season.
Signed from Mainz last summer, Muto has started just five Premier League games, with his total tally standing at one goal in 13 games, with some confused at his lack of game time.
Now, The Chronicle report that Muto is showing a great attitude to improve in training, and may subsequently be given a role in the team before the end of the season, having also got to grips with the English language too.
In the current setup, Muto could challenge Ayoze Perez or Miguel Almiron for a spot just in behind Salomon Rondon, and getting up to speed ahead of pre-season and his second Premier League campaign would be ideal, with staff seemingly impressed with his application of late.
