According to Sport1, Barcelona have joined Tottenham and Newcastle in the race to sign RB Salzburg sensation Karim Adeyemi.
What’s the story?
Well, Xavi has only been in charge of Barcelona for a matter of days, but he’s already planning to upset Tottenham and Newcastle.
Sport1 add that Borussia Dortmund are seriously interested in the 19-year-old, and are planning a bid worth €35m (£29.6m).
However, Barcelona are readying an offer worth €40m (£33.8m), and plan to step things up a level by submitting the bid this week.
Sport1 believe Adeyemi is enthused by the prospect of partaking in Barcelona’s rebuild, although a move this season seems unlikely.
The German news outlet add that the teenager wants to finish the season with RB Salzburg.
News of Barcelona’s interest comes after Sport1 claimed that Tottenham and Newcastle had made contact with RB Salzburg over Adeyemi.
Why do Barcelona, Tottenham and Newcastle want Karim Adeyemi?
There are a number of reasons as to why Adeyemi is one of the most in-demand players across Europe.
Aged just 19, the München-born attacker has impressively scored 15 goals in 22 appearances this season, while also providing two assists.
Adeyemi also has three caps for Germany, in which he’s scored one goal.
Understandably, it’s hard to ignore form like that, especially when it’s coming from a teenager.
You could argue against the strength of the Austrian Bundesliga, although Adeyemi is also delivering the goods in the Champions League.
In four appearances this season, the wonderkid has netted three goals and provided one assist in Europe’s greatest club competition.
All the signs suggest Adeyemi is going to become a superstar.
In that respect, if Tottenham and Newcastle lose out to Xavi and Barcelona, they will be kicking themselves.
