According to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi wants Barcelona to sign Jeremy Doku, a player who Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp have tracked for years.
What’s the story?
Well, Xavi is keen to bring glory back to Barcelona, and is looking to ruffle Liverpool’s feathers in a bid to do so.
Mundo Deportivo believe the Spaniard wants the 10-cap Belgium international, while Karim Adeyemi, Artur Victor Guimaraes, Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo are alternatives.
Interestingly, Doku’s father – David Doku – told Goal that he took his son to visit Liverpool when he was 16.
It was during that meeting where Klopp explained how he viewed the rapid winger as the heir to Sadio Mane’s throne.
Doku also turned down Liverpool in 2018, because of a pep talk from Romelu Lukaku who advised the forward to stay and grow at Anderlecht (Calciomercato).
The speedster has since joined Rennes.
As you can see, the Reds have wanted the mesmeric attacker for years, which comes as no surprise to us whatsoever – he’s electric.
What could Jeremy Doku offer Liverpool or Barcelona?
Dribbles, dribbles and more dribbles – Doku simply loves to run at defenders with the ball glued to his feet.
In fact, the 19-year-old even set a record at EURO 2020 during Belgium’s 2-1 defeat to Italy in the quarter-final (OptaJoe).
In that game, Doku recorded eight successful dribbles – no teenager in history has completed more at either the World Cup or European Championships.
Unfortunately for Xavi and Klopp, he won’t come cheap.
