West Ham United may miss out on Dutch striker Wout Weghorst.
According to De Telegraaf, alleged West Ham United target Wout Weghorst has said goodbye to his AZ Alkmaar teammates – but he is set to join Wolfsburg.
The Hammers have focused on their back line so far, bringing in goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, full back Ryan Fredericks and centre back Issa Diop to boost Manuel Pellegrini’s options.
However, a striker has yet to be brought in, and Pellegrini may well want another option alongside the likes of Andy Carroll, Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, especially as Jordan Hugill’s future is already up in the air.
Pellegrini has often got plenty out of big, physical strikers such as Alvaro Negredo and Salomon Rondon at former clubs, and a huge centre forward was linked with West Ham on Monday.
RTV Oost in the Netherlands reported that West Ham wanted to bring in AZ Alkmaar striker Wout Weghorst, the 6ft 6in target man who smashed 27 goals in 35 games across all competitions last term.
The former Heracles Almelo star, 25, has also earned three caps for the Netherlands as his stock continues to grow, and he is in line for a big summer move away from AZ.
However, De Telegraaf report that Weghorst has said goodbye to his teammates ahead of a move, not to West Ham but instead to Wolfsburg, with the German side paying around £10million mentioned.
West Ham may yet look to reinvigorate Carroll or Hugill as their target man under Pellegrini, or even target his former striker Rondon, but one man who seemingly won’t be in East London next season is Dutch ace Weghorst ahead of his move to the Bundesliga.
