Steven Nzonzi looks unlikely to join Arsenal or Everton this month, with the Rennes midfielder happy to stay at the Ligue 1 outfit until the end of the season, according to French publication Sport.
And who can blame him?
After qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in their history last term, Rennes are in the midst of another thrilling story, and Nzonzi still has a few chapters left to write in Brittany.
A run of five wins in seven matches have lifted Rennes, who started the season slowly, up to fifth in the Ligue 1 table. They are now within touching distance of an inconsistent, underperforming PSG side in top spot too.
So, while Nzonzi has interest from the other side of the Channel, the Roma loanee has no plans to pack his bags and bring a premature end to his 12-month spell at Julian Stephan’s galloping dark horses.
Speaking to Ouest France this week, a member of Nzonzi’s entourage admitted that Everton and Arsenal had shown an interest in the 32-year-old World Cup winner, who previously shone in the Premier League with Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers.
“Arsenal have been following him for several years, even since the days of Arsene Wenger, just like Everton but it never happened,” said an unnamed source.
FootMercato, meanwhile, reports that Arsenal and Everton are still very much interested in the towering midfield enforcer.
