Juventus are planning to release Sami Khedira in the near future after West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers were linked with the World Cup winner, according to Calciomercato.
While Andrea Pirlo has attracted his fair share of detractors during a rather sluggish start to his Juve tenure, every piece of criticism levelled at the rookie coach should be counterbalanced by context.
After all, Pirlo took over a Juventus side in transition with the perennial Serie A winners replacing a squad of battle-scarred champions with talented, if unproven, youngsters.
Out the door went Gonzalo Higuain, Blaise Matuidi, Douglas Costa, Miralem Pjanic and Emre Can. Alvaro Morata was the only new face over the age of 27 arriving at the Allianz Stadium during the summer transfer window.
With Weston McKennie and Arthur pushing him further down the pecking order, it looks for all the world that another established, top-level talent will be giving the Old Lady a kiss on the cheek on his way out the door.
Khedira has not played a single minute in 2020/21 and, according to Calciomercato, the former Real Madrid enforcer will have his £100,000-a-week contract ripped up sooner rather than later.

Calciomercato reported earlier in the year that Wolves and West Ham were interested in offering a World Cup, Champions League, Bundesliga, La Liga and five-time Serie A winner a fresh start in England.
But, at 33 and with no shortage of injuries taking their toll on his ageing body, is Khedira worth the risk?
