Wolverhampton Wanderers are mulling over whether to let Max Kilman leave Molineux on loan this week to further his development, according to the Birmingham Mail.
This is an intriguing scenario.
Of course a spell away from the Black Country, at a club where he would be leader of the defence, should do a highly rated 23-year-old no harm at all.
But Kilman is also carving out an important niche for himself as the ‘gap-plugger’ in Nuno Espirito Santo’s defence.
He has made 14 first-team appearances since the start of last season and caught the eye during Wolves’ final game before the international break, against Fulham.
As you might expect from a man who has 25 caps for the England futsal team, Kilman is a classy operator too, offering a useful passing outlet on the left-hand side and balance to Nuno’s iconic three-man back line.

It is something of a surprise to learn, then, that Wolves could send the one-time Fulham youngster out on loan at some point during the next two days.
The Birmingham Mail suggests that, while chances have been forthcoming, Wolves are concerned the odd appearance every few weeks doesn’t lend itself to boosting a young player’s development.
There should be no shortage of Championship clubs willing to offer Kilman a chance to play week in, week out, however, while third-tier Sunderland are in the market for defenders too after long-term injuries to Arbenit Xhemajli and Morgan Feeney.
“Max has been with us for years. He trains with us every single day, he knows the role inside out, he’s a fantastic lad and a brilliant professional as well,” captain Conor Coady said last week following the 1-0 win over Fulham.
“I thought he was outstanding, but I would expect nothing else from him. He’s brilliant to have around and is a brilliant professional.”
