Wolverhampton Wanderers would want Gonzalo Higuain to take a sizeable pay cut at Molineux with TuttoJuve reporting that the Juventus striker could be offered a three-year deal worth around £80,000-a-week.
Considering that a veteran Argentina currently earns £130,000-a-week in Turin, who could blame Higuain from turning his nose up at Wolves’ offer?
At the age of 32, the former Real Madrid and Napoli striker only has a few years left in the game. There will surely be no shortage of clubs in China, the Middle East or the US willing to hand him the chance to inflate his bank balance before he hangs up his boots.
Then again, there is more to life than money.
And Higuain, a fierce competitor with plenty of miles left in the tank, may be rather tempted by the opportunity to silence those doubting his longevity after that rather underwhelming loan spell at Chelsea last season.
Furthermore, while Wolves aren’t going to break the bank for an ageing forward in these most uncertain of times, they are willing to offer Higuain a lengthy contract at Molineux.
Should he sign that three-year deal, he could stay in the Black Country until the age of 35 – a show of faith if there ever was one.
TuttoJuve suggests that Juventus will ask for Raul Jimenez in exchange if Wolves come calling for Higuain.
But while Jimenez is at the peak of his powers right now, Higuain has struggled in recent times to find the net on a consistent basis.
He has just eight in 34 matches in 2019/20 – a far cry from the form that saw him shatter the record for the most goals in a single Serie A campaign (36) with Napoli.
