Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen to sign Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe just over a year after he left for the Vitality Stadium.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Wolves want to bring Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe back to Molineux just over a year after they sold the forward to the Cherries for £10 million.

Afobe spent around a year at Wolves, scoring 23 goals in 48 games in all competitions before earning an eight-figure move to the Vitality Stadium, where things have arguably not gone to plan.

In 47 games for Bournemouth, the former Arsenal trainee has scored 10 times, and his chances of being a success on the south coast have been dented further by the arrival of Jermain Defoe.

The Mail reports that Wolves have already shown some ambition during this window, agreeing a £14 million fee for Porto midfielder Ruben Neves, and now hope to potentially bring Afobe back to the Championship side.

Whether Bournemouth are willing to listen to any offers remains to be seen, but there is surely no doubt that Nuno Espirito Santo needs to add more fire power to his ranks after a season where the club’s forwards failed to make too great an impact for the side.

Two players – neither out and out strikers – topped the club’s scoring charts for the campaign with 10 goals each, while no other player in the squad scored more than five goals in the league.

So if Afobe is available and does return to Molineux in some capacity – the Mail does not suggest whether Wolves plan to target a loan or permanent deal – then Nuno will be hoping that he can find the kind of form that tempted a Premier League club to spend £10 million on him back in 2016.
