According to The Telegraph, Wolves will look to sign Andy Carroll if they can’t conclude a deal to bring Diego Costa to Molineux.
It looked for all the world that Costa would be arriving at the Midlands club this week after a medical was scheduled, but sadly, the Spaniard was unable to get a work permit.
Wolves will appeal that decision, but if their pleas are unsuccessful they will apparently go for Carroll.
Talk about falling upwards. Carroll spent last season struggling in the Championship with both Reading and West Brom, but now, he could be set for a return to the Premier League with Wolves.
To be fair, Carroll wouldn’t be a bad replacement for Sasa Kalajdzic after the 6ft7 behemoth went down with an ACL injury.
Much like Kalajdzic, Carroll is incredible in the air, and while he’s not the most mobile of strikers, he’s an absolute handful and always has been.
Indeed, there’s a reason Micah Richards described him as ‘horrible to play against’.
Carroll isn’t the most modern of strikers, but in the right system he can still cause all sorts of problems, and with Wolves’ depth of talents in the wide areas, they may actually be able to get the best out of the England international.
The former West Brom man will likely play second-fiddle behind Raul Jimenez, but he’d certainly give Wolves another dimension if they’re struggling for goals – which they so often have in recent months.
This signing would be a gamble, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
