Wolverhampton Wanderers are once again trying to sign Lazio defender Wallace one year after his £6.5 million move to Molineux fell through, according to Lazio News.

In August 2019, Wolves couldn’t find a way to snip through the red tape in time to bring the 6ft 3in Brazilian to the Premier League.

A £6.5 million deal was on the verge of being completed, only for work-permit problems to scupper all that good work (Cittaceleste).

As a result, Wallace was forced to move on loan to Braga instead after falling down Simone Inzaghi’s pecking order at the Stadio Olimpico.

One year on, however, Wolves surely face the same problems as they renew their interest in a Rio-born 25-year-old.

Wallace, who has yet to make an appearance for the Brazilian national team, is still classed as a non-EU citizen. This means Wolves will need to obtain special dispensation from the Football Association, something they were denied 13 months ago.

Black Country boss Nuno Espirito Santo has made it clear he wants a larger squad next season after his skeleton staff worked their fingers to the bone during a gruelling Premier and Europa League campaigns.

Wallace is represented by – guess who? – Jorge Mendes. Fabio Silva and Vitor Ferreira, two more Mendes clients, have arrived from Porto in the past week alongside Lyon’s Champions League hero Marcal.
