Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly eyeing up a move for Derby County striker Chris Martin.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men appear to be storming towards the Championship title, often outplaying their opponents and stepping up a gear in their last two games, scoring nine times. They will go 10 points clear of third place Bristol City should they beat Birmingham on Monday.
Despite being the top goalscorers in the league, it appears that Wolves are determined to bolster their striker options in January – and The Sun on Sunday reports that Martin is the name at the very top of their list of targets.
The Scotland international has not enjoyed the best season for Gary Rowett’s men, so it may well surprise some that he is being pursued by a team that looks to be clear favourites to go up automatically this term.
Martin has made 19 appearances in the league, but has started just four times and scored just once. But Derby will know how costly letting him go could also be, having watched him impress on loan at Fulham last term and help them reach the play-off semi-final.
The Sun on Sunday adds that, if he does end up at Molineux, he is likely to be a squad player at most. That is no surprise given the form that Leo Bonatini has enjoyed during his first year in England, with 11 goals under his belt already.
That peripheral role should perhaps convince Rowett to seriously think about taking the money on offer. He is less likely to make the Rams rue the decision to let him go, and with his form at Pride Park hardly capturing the imagination, Rowett may feel that using the funds to sign a replacement may be a wise move as they look to capitalise on their own promising position in the table.
