Report: Wolves want another £35m youngster after signing Silva

Wolverhampton Wanderers could sign a third Porto player in the space of a week with Tomas Esteves lined up to replace Matt Doherty at Molineux, according to Portuguese publication Zap.

While the Black Country giants have spent much of the summer being linked with the likes of Faouzi Ghoulam and Joao Palhinha, two of the most exciting Iberian talents in the game have emerged out of the blue instead.

Wolves have invested a club record £35 million in 18-year-old striker Fabio Silva.

And, according to the Mail, 20-year-old Vitor Ferreira is also set to swap Porto for the Midlands, with the Europa League quarter-finalists set to sign him on loan with an option to buy set at £18 million.

Now, attention will turn to Esteves.

A swashbuckling right-back who is equally comfortable executing a perfectly timed sliding tackle as he is carrying the ball upfield with explosive acceleration, many consider the teenager the most promising youngster in Porto’s ranks – including the £35 million Silva.

Like Wolves’ new number 17, Esteves has a £35 million release clause in his contract.

It remains to be seen whether the Premier League high-flyers are willing to pay another record fee for an unproven teenager – or whether cash-strapped Porto are willing to accept a cut-price sum for a man who could be Portugal’s right-back for years to come.

Esteves could be given the difficult task of replacing the influential Doherty after the Irishman left for Tottenham.
