Wolverhampton Wanderers are continuing to make plans following their Championship title win.

According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, Wolves are interested in signing Rui Patricio from Sporting this summer, but they face competition from Napoli with Pepe Reina set to leave Stadio San Paolo.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are gearing up for life in the Premier League having won the Championship title at something of a canter as they finished nine points clear of Cardiff City. Unfortunately, they were unable to bring up the century of points that they deserved after losing on the final day to bottom side Sunderland.

And they are wasting no time in getting their summer plans laid out. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Wolves have put Andre Silva at the top of their list of targets, while they are also keen on the Sporting stopper.

Gianluca Di Marzio adds that Sporting have no desire to sell the 30-year-old Euro 2016 winner and have warned that the £30.66 million release clause in Patricio’s contract will have to be activated if any interested side wants a deal. Napoli are also keen, and the player is said to prefer a switch to join the Serie A side.

Given Patricio’s experience, it would arguably be a fantastic signing and statement from Wolves if they were able to attract him to Molineux during the coming months.

John Ruddy performed well in the Championship, but Nuno would be forgiven for wanting to improve his options further given that they are going to be under a lot more pressure at the highest level. Patricio would have to be considered a superb addition if Wolves managed to get the goalkeeper through the door.
