Jeunes Footeux claim that Wolves want to sign Benfica superstar Rafa Silva in the summer window – with Trincao expected to return to Barcelona after his loan spell. Wolves do have a £25million clause in Trincao’s loan (Sky).
Trincao, 22, has proved ineffective while on loan from Barcelona – failing to score or provide an assist in 20 Premier League outings for Wolves. He has one goal to his name, though it came in the Carabao Cup against Forest.
Wolves, understandably, are unwilling to make his loan a permanent deal at the cost of £25million. Instead, they are looking to raid Benfica for his replacement, in the form of Portugal international Silva – who is on fire.
The 25-time Portugal star has produced a whopping 28 goal involvements in 38 games this season – scoring 11 and creating 17. The report claims Benfica are requesting an enormous £42million, a club-record figure for Wolves.
Wolves eye Silva: A wonderful signing, but fee is big question mark
The decision not to exercise the permanent option in Trincao’s loan is certainly the correct one. But to spend £42million on Silva is certainly an expensive deal – even if Silva would be a wonderful coup for Wolves.
Obviously, the Portuguese contingent is strong at Molineux and Silva would fit right at home. But he turns 29 in May – so would Wolves spend such a big amount of money on a player that will be in his thirties in 18 months?
If Wolves can arrange a fee that is slightly below that figure – perhaps something between £30million and £35million, it makes more sense.
