Robin Lod looks set to leave Panathinaikos with Wolverhampton Wanderers linked with a move in the New Year.
Robin Lod’s contract at Panathinaikos expires in the summer and, as it stands, there is no sign of the Finland international committing his future to the Greek giants.
According to DH.be earlier this month, Championship side Bristol City are hoping to lure the Finland international midfielder to Ashton Gate in January. With Panathinaikos in deep financial trouble, it is reported that a fee of just £440,000 could be enough to bring Lod to England.
A 24-year-old attacking midfielder, the 20-cap Finland international is very highly rated in Turkey and it was his goals in a play-off win against PAOK towards the end of last season earned Panathinaikos the chance to feature in the qualifying rounds for the Champions League.
But it appears that Lod’s time in Greek football may have come to an end. Because, in addition to Bristol City, the Bristol Post claims that Championship league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested.
Wolves look almost certain for promotion this season after a superb start to the season was extended by 4-1 and 5-1 thrashings of Leeds United and Bolton Wanderers last week.
As it stands, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are four points clear of Cardiff City at the top of the table while boasting arguably the best squad seen at Championship level in recent memory.
And Lod would only offer further quality and depth to an already impressive midfield. For all the strength of Wolves’ squad, most of the midfielders at Nuno’s disposal are defensively minded or traditionally deep-lying.
Lod, then, would give Wolves something different in the centre of the park.
