Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on a loan deal for Atletico Madrid winger Diogo Jota.
According to a report from the Express and Star, Wolves’ loan move for Atletico Madrid winger Diogo Jota will include a clause that will allow the Championship side to potentially sign the 20-year-old on a permanent basis.
The Express and Star reports that Jota arrived in England on Friday for a medical and to finalise the terms of his season-long loan, and the deal will be completed and confirmed in the next couple of days.
One clause coming from the deal, the Express and Star reports, is that Wolves will be able to make the youngster a permanent player at Molineux in the future – and based on the form he showed on loan at Porto last season, that could perhaps be a real coup for Wolves.
Diogo Jota
The Portuguese scored eight times and contributed five assists in the top flight last term – meaning that only two players managed to find the back of the net on more occasions than he did.
And that form came while working under the man who the Wolves hierarchy have now chosen to succeed Paul Lambert, Nuno Espirito Santo, so the club may be hoping that the reunion between the pair will see the prospect find his best form during the coming campaign.
The Express and Star does not suggest the figure it will take to sign Jota permanently, but they suggest that it would not be a surprise if his value had risen dramatically since his £6 million switch to Atleti in 2016.
If that proves to be the case, and Wolves decide at some stage to make the move permanent, then that would surely be yet another tremendous statement of intent from the second tier side who appear to have enjoyed a wonderful window so far.
