According to AS, Wolves still owe Barcelona millions of pounds following the unsuccessful loan of Francisco Trincao.
Why Wolves owe Barcelona millions
Well, Wolves paid an initial £5.1m fee to sign the Portugal international on loan from Barcelona for the 2021/22 campaign.
Trincao didn’t perform too well, scoring just three goals in 30 appearances, and Wolves decided not to trigger their option to buy him for £25m.
However, in making that decision, they were charged a further £5.1m, which AS believe they are yet to pay Barcelona.
Therefore, once that sum is paid to the Spanish giants, Wolves will have spent £10.2m just to have Trincao on loan for one season, which is very poor business, to say the least.
That eight-figure fee surely could’ve been spent more wisely.

According to the Express and Star, Wolves did at least manage to negotiate a 20% sell-on fee despite the fact they never owned Trincao permanently, which entitles them to a cut of the fee if Barcelona sell him.
So far this season, the 22-year-old has scored three goals in nine games while on loan at Sporting Lisbon.
Wolves embarrassed by Barcelona
In our view, Wolves have been embarrassed by Barcelona on this occasion.
We simply cannot understand why those at Molineux agreed to be charged £5.1m if they didn’t sign Trincao for £25m, effectively holding themselves to ransom over a loan deal which was far from important for Wolves.
Now, the Old Gold are staring an eight-figure fee in the face for a player they owned for less than 12 months.
Hopefully, those at Wolves learn from this error, and can make wiser recruitment decisions going forward.
There is an opportunity to get some sort of payback, as Barcelona have made Ruben Neves their top target according to Sport – be sure to keep an eye on that situation going into 2023.
