Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly followed numerous European games closely this season as they looked for potential summer targets.
According to a report from Birmingham Live, Wolves have sent scouts to numerous Champions League and Europa League ties throughout the season, but they have also had representatives at the under-19 games that often take place on the same day between the two clubs.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are now facing the tough task of working out how they improve upon their outstanding first season back in the Premier League.
Wolves finished seventh in the table and will earn a spot in next season’s Europa League should Manchester City beat Watford in the FA Cup final this weekend.
But unsurprisingly, the club appear to have been making preparations for this summer throughout the campaign. Birmingham Live reports that they have had scouts at several games in Europe’s two premier club competitions.
And with one eye on strengthening their academy ranks, they have reportedly also been watching the youth-team games that take place in the hours before the Champions League or Europa League fixtures between the same two clubs.
The Wolves hierarchy are keen to improve their academy productivity. That could be an incredibly smart move at a time when the first-team are taking the pressure off by doing so well.
That ensures that those who want to follow in Morgan Gibbs-White’s footsteps only need to be used once they are ready for senior football.
And of course, creating that production line of academy prospects moving into the first-team will boost Wolves’ hopes of keeping up with some of the sides who may have bigger budgets to work with.
