Jorge Mendes is advising Wolves in their search for a new manager – and Marco Silva, one of his clients, is believed to be a candidate.

According to The Mirror, Portuguese manager Marco Silva is in the frame to become the new Wolverhampton Wanderers manager.

Wolves announced earlier today that manager Walter Zenga has been sacked, less than three months after the Italian was appointed.

With four defeats in the last five games and just one point picked up in that spell, Wolves have slipped to 18th in the Championship table, just four points clear of the relegation zone.

It’s therefore little surprise that Zenga has lost his job, though some will believe that he deserved more time having only taken charge of 17 matches.

Now, the attention turns to finding a replacement for the nomadic Italian. The Fosun Group will be keen to get this appointment right, and are taking their time having put Rob Edwards in temporary charge, rather than announcing an immediate successor as they did following Kenny Jackett’s departure over the summer.

The Mirror now report that super agent Jorge Mendes is assisting Wolves in their search for a new boss, and one of his clients is belived to be on a shortlist to replace Zenga.

Portuguese manager Marco Silva is the man in question, and he’s one of the frontrunners for the job both due to Mendes’ association with the club and his decent record in management so far.

The 39-year-old impressed in almost three years at Estoril before landing a big job with Sporting Lisbon, where he 58.5% of his games, but was sacked in the summer of 2015, setting up his move to Olympiakos.

Silva won more than 79% of his games with the Greek giants, clinching the league title before quitting in June, freeing him up to move elsewhere.

Many believed that Silva would take the Wolves job after Jackett’s exit over the summer, but he’s now in the frame again if reports are to be believed, with Mendes’ influence no doubt a major factor here.
