Reports in Belgium have suggested that Wolverhampton Wanderers have pulled out of the race to sign Anderlecht striker Idrissa Sylla.

It was reported by the Daily Mail earlier this month that Wolves had bid £5 million for the Guinea international.

Wolves had been linked to the player, who has the nickname ‘Waddle’ after the former England international, last summer but with the new investment from the Fosun Group it seemed they might actually be able to afford him.

But Het Laatste Nieuws has reported today that Wolves have pulled out of a deal for the player.

The report gives no reason for the withdrawal, but it was believed the forward would have some issues trying to gain a work permit to play in the UK.

Sylla, who has also been linked to Newcastle United this summer, has started the season with aplomb for Anderlecht – scoring two goals in three games for the Belgian side.

He has also been linked with a move to Atalanta in Italy but the reports today suggest he will be staying at Anderlecht for now.

Wolves will no doubt be seeking different transfer targets.
