Wolverhampton Wanderers have the option to buy Diogo Jota – who has made a brilliant start to life in the Championship – permanently.

According to a report from the Express and Star, Wolves are hoping that they will be able to make Diogo Jota’s loan move a permanent one during the January transfer window, and they may not have to break their transfer record to do it.

Jota arrived at Molineux during the summer, and the Atletico Madrid-owned forward has taken absolutely no time at all to adapt to life in the Championship.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are flying high in the second tier, and the 20-year-old’s form is a key reason for that, with the forward scoring six times in 11 appearances to leave him just one goal off the top scorers across the entire division despite the fact that he has often played in advanced position on the left.

Unsurprisingly, Wolves are extremely keen to take up the permanent option in his loan deal, and now hope to conclude a deal during the January window rather than wait until the end of the campaign.

The Express and Star reports that while Jota will command an eight-figure fee, he would not become their record signing so would cost less than the £15 million that the club spent on bringing Ruben Neves in during the summer.

Should Wolves manage to complete a permanent deal for Jota, it would undoubtedly be a brilliant piece of business and a major statement of intent from a club that have already made several incredible statements since the owners arrived.

The forward already looks at home in the Championship. And given his age and his current form, he should only get better – which should be a frightening thought for some of their promotion rivals.
