Paul Lambert knows Jordan Hugill would be a fine addition to Wolves’ attack – but Preston North End have been handed a major boost.

You can understand why Paul Lambert would be unhappy with Wolves’ Chinese owners handing control of recruitment over to super-agent Jorge Mendes.
After all, the Portuguese isn’t even employed by the Championship club. And, barring Helder Costa, most of the signings he brought to Wolves last summer from the Iberian nation ranged from the abysmal to the anonymous.
Therefore, The Telegraph reported that Lambert could quit after less than a year in charge with his position seemingly undermined.
The newspaper added that the Scot wanted to sign Grant Hanley, Tom Lawrence and Tammy Abraham this summer. The former is a proven Championship centre-back while Lawrence and Abraham recently enjoyed sensational, prolific loans at Ipswich and Bristol City respectively.
However, Mendes’ unofficial influence means three possibly inspired signings are unlikely to come to fruition. And, according to the Lancashire Post, Wolves’ interest in Preston North End forward Jordan Hugill has cooled for the same reason.

Lam to the slaughter
HITC sources told us recently that Wolves had made the Middlesbrough-born frontman one of their top priorities this summer. With 12 Championship goals last season, Hugill comfortably outscored each of the strikers at Lambert’s disposal and appeared to have the strength and hold-up play to be a perfect fit in his one-striker system.
However, the Lancashire Post report that Hugill would have been a Lambert signing. And, despite the success of January additions Andi Weimann and Ben Marshall, Wolves’ owners appear unlikely to allow the manager to bring in his own players this summer.
This means that Hugill is unlikely to be donning the famous gold next season.
