Wolverhampton Wanderers have seemingly earmarked the Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper as a potential summer target.
Jason Steele
A report in The Sun has suggested that Wolves have taken little time to try and get their summer spending underway having made a £3 million bid for Blackburn Rovers stopper Jason Steele.
The Sun reports that Rovers’ owners are prepared to sell Steele this summer as they begin to prepare for life in the third tier following their relegation on the final day of the Championship season.
According to The Sun, Venky’s are hoping to shift the stopper off their books due to his £6,000 per week wage, and are seemingly keen to sell him this summer before his contract expires at the end of next season.
The Sun adds that Wolves are keen to bring him to Molineux and have wasted little time in making their interest known – perhaps sensing that they may have competition in the race to sign the 26-year-old, who has made 41 league appearances in each of the last two campaigns for Blackburn.
Wolves manager Paul Lambert worked with Steele at Blackburn
Of course, Lambert will have a very good idea of what the former Middlesbrough man will bring to his side having been in charge at Ewood Park for much of last season.
And while it remains to be seen where Lambert plans to place Steele in the pecking order – with Carl Ikeme being Wolves’ own stalwart between the sticks, while Andy Lonergan is also in the ranks – the seven-figure fee perhaps hints that he is not planning to sign him for him to sit on the bench.
